Visiting with Aunt Betty and Chelsea in Dallas 2025

We had such a nice trip to Dallas to see Aunt Betty and Chelsea. We flew in to Dallas Saturday early and spent the day with Aunt Betty touring the art district.

We started at the Nasher which had a traveling sculpture exhibit from the Korean artist, Haegue Yang. It was very interesting. We saw sculptures made from rocks and bells and paper and string. It was great, but to be honest, I don't think I understood everything the artist was communicating through her work. There was also a sizable permanent collection in the galleries and gardens which were equally intriguing. I found it interesting that more often than not the museum curators notes on each piece stated what the sculpture may mean and not what it does mean. I assumed that artists would generally make it clear to the world what each sculpture is communicating. Also it was a free Saturday with donut holes; nice.

Next we went to Klyde Warren park where they were many food trucks. We decided on Texas fare and enjoyed our brisket sandwich in the luscious Dallas sunshine.

Next we went to Dallas Museum of Art where we focused on a traveling exhibit about Frida. I was not familiar with her or her art, but found her life fascinating albeit sad.
We were all ready for some rest and headed back to aunt Betty's where Lynne took an intentional nap and I took an unintentional nap trying to read.

For dinner we went to Eatsy's where we're got a family meal for $40 which actually fed us two nights with enough left for Monday lunch. What a deal!

We had a great visit with Chelsea (and Buccee) at Texas Women’s university. The meet was so exciting. Chelsea did a good bars routine 9.625 but the overall scores were lower than last meet so they were behind after two rounds. But AF did great on floor and TWU struggled on beam in round three and AF surged ahead for a 0.625 lead. In round four AF did better than TWU on beam but still less than TWU’s floor scores. It came down to the very last floor routine and we all watched anxiously. When the final score came up they were tired!

And then they weren’t. 0.05 suddenly showed up on the TWU score giving them a very SUS win. (That’s suspicious for the uninformed.)

We got to hang out with Chelsea for a little while before they headed out for a quick dinner and plane ride home. Bonus we saw Velandra whose face graced not only the meet but also the stands among her many local fans.

We headed back to aunt Betty’s for the second half of the dinner we began the night before. lol. Since we had to catch a flight in the morning at 0600 we made it a short evening and hit the Murphy bed.

It was so great spending time with Aunt Betty and Chelsea’s.  It was a short and wonderful opportunity trading time for memories
